Christmas with the Newmans

A few weekends ago, we celebrated Christmas with Andrea's side of the family over at Aunt Shay's house.  There were lots of presents and lots of food!  It was a great celebratory kick off to the first of many Christmas festivities for us.

 Now that's a group shot!

San Antonio Rock N Roll Half Marathon

I'm definitley behind on blogging but have had these pics in the edit mode for way too long.  Back on November 11th, I ran in the SA Rock N Roll 1/2 Marathon with a bunch of my mom's group friends.  We were all racing at different levels with different goals but were all cheering each other on to make them!  I just wanted to have a good, injury free race having come off the Chicago Marathon a month before.  It was uncomfortably humid and warm and we knew the race conditions were less than ideal.

It was far from my best race.
  • Finished in 01:54:37
  • Pace 8:45/mile
  • Overall 1303 out of 16516
  • Division 59 out of 1846
  • Gender 327 out of 10124
In fact, it was down right rough.  But doing it knowing I had a lot of friends to celebrate with at the end made it worth it and as with every race, a new and different experience!  My asthma really gave me a run for my money this run and I realized that my posture really does make a huge difference as far as air flow from my lungs.  I have a tendency to hunch forward which can cause all sorts of misallignment issues with my joints, let alone airways, so I am really trying to be cognizant of running with better posture.  There's always something to learn!

Carleigh's Preschool Pictures

/
I need to know this photographer's tricks!  I really wish I had known then that the other parents didn't follow the sneakers/socks rule on picture day.  I could've gone with boots but it was over 95 degree that day, and then would have been even more judged.  I love her expressions but am certain one day she will ask why I made her wear tennis shoes with this outfit!  Let's intead focus on how adorable she is!!!

Advent Night UUMC

This past Tuesday, we went to Carleigh's school for their annual Advent Night!  It's all about kicking off the Christmas season and a ton of fun for the kids.  There were lots of stations for the kids to do activities and even a petting zoo!
Carleigh loved the Alpaca!  His name was Rex.
The pig was quite friendly, too!
Once we got inside, she chose to make a noodle necklace and decorate a Christmas card.
She couldn't get enough of the stamps!
She then moved on to decorating a sugar cookie and of course loaded it with sprinkles.  She tasted it, but of course, gave it to Mommy and Daddy, as cookies/cupcakes aren't her thing.
There were way too many activities to do in one night so we tried to start winding things down as it was already past her bedtime.  She made a beard for Santa using shaving cream and had fun dressing up as an angel in the nativity set.  She also had fun playing musical instruments with classmates (not pictured).
She wanted to stop by the petting zoo one last time, but really didn't fight us when we said it was time to go.   Carleigh was so proud to show off her school to us!  It was such a festive evening!

Oh, Ears!

Last Friday, maybe 10 days (who knows, but not long) after the last bout of sickness/ear infections, we were out playing in the dirt, his new favorite pasttime, when I noticed drainage coming out of his ear.  I should have known with his bad sleeping, poor eating and sick looking eyes.  Anyhow, I reached out to wipe the stuff from his ear and of course, noticed that it was continuing to flow.  So back we went to the pediatricians' office!  Thank goodness they see us on such short notice!

His chart is now marked high risk, so they automatically pull out the big guns with him.  They also had us wait in the outer hallway (instead of the sick waiting room) and use the side doors to the clinic so we could by pass all the flu kiddos in the sick waiting room.  He started Ciprodex drops immediately and started the first round of Rocephin shots.  Poor baby!!!  But he did get better fast!  That Rocephin sure does the trick!  I love the winter weather but would trade it in a heartbeat to get rid of all this winter sickness!

Carleigh's 1st Mani/Pedi!

Last week, Carleigh and I did something we've never done before!  We went and got our first mani/pedi together!  Since she'd never done it before, she was both excited and apprehensive.
I wasn't exactly sure where to take her so I took her down to the Quarry Village where I knew they had a kids chair at Ann's Nails.  Later I found out there was a kid's chair at the salon in Lookout Canyon right around the corner!  Next time...
We got there and Carleigh got to pick out her color, or in her case colors.  She chose pink and purple glitter to do on alternating nails.
The kids' chairs offered personal dvd players to watch while you got serviced.  She watched Cinderella while the manicurist attended to her.  Not bad!!!
I was sitting right across from her and she did great!

I think she likes the pampered lifestyle!
She did mess up her toes a time or two, but they were very patient with her and had no problem repainting them.
What a fun Mommy/daughter date!
