Mommy's not the only one who has gotten to know people fast! Carleigh has made friends quickly, too, and had her first birthday party this past weekend ... a Tinkerbell/fairy party for her new friend Kami! So rather than be Tink, too (I had to teach Carleigh about letting the birthday girl shine), we threw together a combination of a dance outfit mixed with butterfly wings and voila ...she became Rosetta! She looked amazing and was super excited to not only look fairy fabulous but to have a fairy fun time!

Weekend fun!
Gone are the days of the grandparents watching the kids overnight while we have adults' only time. Not that we haven't found a babysitter :) but we definitely do a lot more as a family on the weekend evenings than we used to. Luckily, Brad and Tara and most of the other families we've been meeting up here are in our same boat. And, with a hot tub/pool in the back yard, it sure does make for built-in fun for everyone!
Carter and Carleigh sure do like us having fewer date nights! Staying up later,
playing longer and seeing each other way more than they used to ...
this moving to Dallas thing isn't quite so bad! We are getting more use out of the hot tub than the bath tubs in the house! Can't wait til summer time to say the same thing about the pool!

Fort Worth Zoo with Gigi
A few days after Mimi and Papaw left Gigi flew up and spent Spring Break with us! We loved having her here and did lots of fun stuff with her, including a visit to the Fort Worth Zoo! We were pleasantly surprised to find out it's one of the top 5 zoos in the nation. Although it was super busy because of Spring Break, and unseasonably warm, we still managed to enjoy the petting zoo, train see some animals and ride the carousel!

Mimi and Papaw Visit
Two weeks ago, Papaw surprised us with a midweek visit! We were all ecstatic! Carleigh shreiked when she saw him! Parker's reaction wasn't quite so enthuastic but he soon warmed up. They enjoyed playing with Papaw and I enjoyed having his handiness around the house!
Mimi also came up Thursday of that week and joined us. It was great having both of them around to help out! They enjoyed the kids company and we did manage to squeeze some fun in between all the hard work we put in!
It's always hard saying good-bye but so nice that it's not that far away! We'll see you very soon!

Lifetime Indoor Pool Fun
Shortly after getting settled, we quickly found a gym (of course) and have tried to get the kids acclimated to the kids club. On the weekend, we have tried out the indoor pool and the kids' love it! That is one thing that Spectrum did not have in San Antonio that Lifetime does. Carleigh isn't brave enough to go down the slide (they won't let parents accompany children down it) but I have a feeling she'll muster up the courage in the coming months. She and Parker did love the mushroom waterfall and the water sprays shooting out of the pool. Parker was all about climbing in and out of the pool and jumping to us! What a little daredevil!
It was great to be able to practice some of their skills from swim class
there since our pool is still too cold! All in all, I can see us doing
this a lot!

Friends Forever
Distance may now separate them, but the bond between Carleigh and Ireland is so special I wanted to do something for them both to preserve the memory of their friendship. The girls have already facetime'd each other and Carleigh still asks when we are going back to San Antonio to see Ireland. So she knows we don't live near her anymore, but she hasn't forgotten. The photo books I made for Ireland and Carleigh span as far back as 6 weeks old! When I told Carleigh the package was for her to open, she was excited, of course. She opened it, and I was able to snap a few pics of her initial expressions! The funny thing is she thought Ireland had sent her the book and I am still letting her think that because it's pretty cute to hear her talk about it. As she paged through the book, she couldn't believe her and Ireland had been playing together for so long!
Initial reaction
The book stirred up memories.
Smiling at old pictures.
I love that Carleigh will get to look back at this and hopefully, as we continue to visit San Antonio, and they visit us, we'll continue to make more memories and I'll have more material for more books in the future.
Who knows? They could have these books in their dorms at UT one day when they reunite in college? :)

Cowtown Marathon
About a month and a half before we moved up to the Dallas area, Dustin and I had a talk about our travel plans for the year. Because of the new job for him, there wouldn't be as much taking off and so my tradition (started just last year) of wanting to do a destination race would have to be put on hold this year. I knew the lottery for the ING New York Marathon was coming up and that Chicago would sell out again in days (who knew it would turn into a lottery like it did?!?) so instead of pine for those races, I decided to look closer to home for a run to do that required no travel. There are several in the fall, but then I saw the Cowtown Marathon just down the road in Fort Worth and figured, why not? I'm already in 1/2 Marathon form because of the SA Rock N Roll and the 3M and have been running at least 8-10 miles every weekend. I could just intensify my weekend runs over the next 6 weeks and be ready! I'm a firm believer in the Hansen Method anyways, never running further than a 16 mile long run before the marathon. It worked out for Chicago, and turns out it worked out for Cowtown!
The course was mostly flat with mile 9 being entirely uphill, though I keep reading it's considered a hilly course, so maybe my idea of hilly and everyone else's is different. Being used to running in the hills of north San Antonio, this hill was easier than the Point Bluff Drive hill, just a lot longer.
Mile 6 took us through the historic Fort Worth Stockyards and most of the way was cobblestone streets. Not so great for week ankles like mine, but I pushed through it. I was clocking a 8:12/mile at this point.
I didn't throw my gloves off til mile 13. It was 39 degrees at the start and warmed up into the mid 40s about an 2 hours in. Since your body warms up 20 degrees warmer than the outside temp, my body finally had pumped some blood into my fingers, though it was mostly working on getting the blood to my heart. This is actually perfect, near ideal, race conditions, save for the south headwind we had that slowed us down.
This was the first marathon I've run that I had to stop to use the bathroom, twice. Mile 17 and Mile 22. There was no way around it. And I can only say run with the gels/blocks WEEKS before you run your marathon. I'm normally good about this, but because this was kind of a last minute race entry, I had not been using any sort of fuel on my long runs. I should have just run like that in the race. Lesson learned. I probably lost 3-4 minutes each stop. I ended up 15th out of 87th in my age division. Not bad! My goal was sub 4, so I was happy even with the stops, I hit it! My splits were as follows:
| Chip Time | Bib | Name | City | State | Division | Class Position | Overall Place | Pace |
|---|
| 03:59:12 | 1526 | Jessica | Tondre | TROPHY CLUB | TX | MARATHON FEMALES 15 30-34 | 346 | 9:08 |
| 5KPace | 5K | 10KPace | 10K | 13.1Pace | 13.1 | 20MPace | 20M |
|---|
| 7:56 | 0:24:38 | 7:58 | 0:49:28 | 8:12 | 1:47:17 | 8:43 | 2:54:05 |
When I hit the finish line, I felt great! I wasn't overly exhausted and my legs weren't spent. I was proud of myself and already thinking about my next race... I may wait 5-6 months before the next full marathon, but there are a lot of halfs in the area in the meantime. And, never, say never :). I think my body is just getting used to this because the day of the race, my body was creaky and sore, but the next day I was good to go! No quad soreness, leg pain or anything! Either that or I didn't run hard enough!
I'm definitely doing this one again next year! Great race!
