Carleigh's first ear infection

Yesterday and today have been rough in terms of Carleigh's behavior.  We've seen the pulling of the ear for almost 2 weeks now, but Thursday's pediatrician visit confirmed there was only clear fluid in the right ear and no infection, therefore no antibiotics were prescribed.   We originally thought she had a tummyache because almost all things with her are GI related.  She barely slept at all last night and it's because she couldn't lay flat without incredible pressure/pain.  Dustin stayed up with her most of the night!  What a good husband and daddy!

So today, we decided to go to Good Night Pediatrics; for once both Dustin and I both agreed that we NEEDED to go.  In two days time, an infection had developed and the doctor told us that the fluid had developed bacteria and was infected her behavior was indicative of the pain associated with that.  As for her staying up all the night before, she said that when baby's have ear infections they often will be able to fall asleep in your arms but then when you try to lay them down in their crib, they will start crying.  The fussiness and ups and downs I've been posting about very well might be her personality but also may have to do with her not feeling great (even when it's not a full blown infection, the fluid causes a popping in the ear that causes discomfort).  Well, now we've got antibiotics and are hoping to get our Carleigh back!  Poor baby!
Dr. Sutherland's (Good Night Pediatrics) lovely drawing of the ear and what was going on with Carleigh.
